In response to the heavy rainfall forecast, the Kerala government has activated emergency operation centers across all district collectorates to address potential landslides and mudslides. On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts due to heavy rainfall. These districts, already under orange alerts, are expected to experience very heavy rainfall in isolated areas on Wednesday, according to the Weather Department
Alerts Issued:
Red Alert: Pathanamthitta and Idukki
Orange Alert: Thiruvananthapuram and seven other districts experiencing widespread rain
Yellow Alert: Palakkad, Kozhikode, Kannur, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kasaragod in the northern region
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority has urged residents to remain cautious amid the heavy rains. Hospitals are on high alert to manage any emergencies, including potential epidemic outbreaks. Numerous instances of waterlogging have been reported statewide.

K Rajan, State Revenue Minister has issued specific instructions to tourists regarding the current weather conditions. He warned of potential mudslides on roads due to the heavy rains. District collectors have been advised to consider imposing night travel bans in hilly areas if necessary. “The 24×7 Emergency Operation Centres have been established in all collectorates and taluk offices, coordinating with various departments to handle urgent situations,” Rajan stated.
