Two low-intensity explosions rocked Chandigarh early Tuesday morning, targeting two popular nightclubs, one of which is owned by singer-rapper Badshah. The blasts, which occurred around 3:14 a.m., caused only minor damage, with shattered glass at the entrance of one club. No injuries were reported.
Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi’s associate, Goldy Brar, later claimed responsibility for the attacks, alleging that the nightclub owners—Badshah’s De Orra and Seville—had failed to pay “protection money.” Brar’s claim was posted on Facebook, stating that repeated demands had been ignored, and further attacks would follow unless the payments were made.
CCTV footage revealed one of the assailants, riding a motorcycle, throwing the bombs at both locations before speeding away towards Mohali. The blasts took place near Sector 26 police station, only 100 meters from the site, but the police have yet to determine the full scope of the threat. A Central Forensic Science Laboratory team has collected evidence from the scene, which included jute strips found near the blast sites.
While the motive remains under investigation, authorities believe the timing of the attacks—just days before Prime Minister Modi’s planned visit to Chandigarh—could signal an attempt to send a warning or a threat to the nightclub owners. This incident follows a similar grenade attack in September, which also involved individuals linked to the Bishnoi gang.
