NEW DELHI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the NDA government on Friday, labeling it as a minority government formed by mistake. He asserted that Prime Minister Modi lacked a proper mandate and suggested the government could collapse at any moment.

“The NDA government was formed by mistake. Modi ji lacks the mandate. It’s a minority government and could fall at any time. While we wish for stability for the country’s benefit and hope to work together to strengthen it, our Prime Minister often disrupts progress. Nevertheless, we will continue cooperating for the country’s betterment,” said Kharge.

In the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP secured 240 seats, falling short of the majority mark of 272, and relied on allies like TDP, JDU, and LJPRV, who won 16, 12, and 5 seats respectively, to form the government.

Responding to Kharge, JDU MLC Neeraj Kumar reminded him of the Congress-led governments under PV Narasimha Rao and Manmohan Singh, which won 244 seats in the 1991 general elections and 114 in 2004. Kumar questioned Kharge’s understanding of Congress’s history, stating the party is now stuck in the “99 ka Chakkar.”

However, Congress ally RJD supported Kharge’s stance. “Kharge is right! The popular mandate was against the Modi government. Voters didn’t accept him, yet he rose to power,” said RJD spokesperson Ejaz Ahmad.
