GURGAON: A 50-year-old private company employee lost his life, and his daughter sustained injuries when the auto-rickshaw they were traveling in overturned on the Gurgaon-Delhi Expressway near Beriwala Bagh on Saturday afternoon. Following the accident, the auto driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene. Based on the daughter’s complaint, police have registered a case against the driver.

The deceased, Mahendra Kumar, hailed from Jakhour village in UP’s Hardoi district.

In her complaint, Puja, the daughter, recounted that she and her father had traveled to Naharpur to visit her sister, Laxmi. “After meeting my sister, we were on our way back to Jakhour. We boarded an auto-rickshaw in Naharpur to go to the Gurgaon bus stand. Despite our warnings, the auto driver was driving carelessly at high speed. When we reached Beriwala Bagh on the Gurgaon-Delhi Expressway, the auto-rickshaw went out of control and overturned on the highway in front of the Nexa showroom,” Puja stated.

According to police reports, Mahendra was trapped under the overturned auto and suffered severe injuries, while Puja sustained minor injuries. Puja further mentioned that the auto driver fled the scene immediately after the accident. Other motorists and locals helped pull the two out of the wreckage and admitted them to the nearby Medanta Hospital, where Mahendra was declared dead.

“Based on the complaint of Puja, police registered a case under BNS sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving or riding in a public way). Police have seized the auto and are trying to trace the accused,” the police spokesperson said.
