LUCKNOW: Violence erupted in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, on Monday morning during the funeral of 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra, who was shot dead the previous day amid clashes between two communities over DJ music played during a Durga idol immersion in the Mahsi area.
A large crowd gathered for Mishra’s last rites, which escalated into a rampage, resulting in vehicles being set ablaze at an automobile showroom and vandalism at a private hospital.
In response to the unrest, authorities suspended internet services, and efforts were made to restore order. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath sent Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Amitabh Yash and the home secretary to the district to oversee the situation.
