In preparation for Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony as the Prime Minister of India on Sunday, authorities have implemented extensive security measures in and around Delhi, including prohibitory orders and a no-flying zone declaration. President Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Modi and his cabinet ministers at 7:15 pm on Sunday at the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Forecourt.

Here are 10 key points on Delhi’s security arrangements:

Security Review: Top Delhi Police officials conducted a thorough security review at the Rashtrapati Bhavan as part of the preparations for the event.

Foreign Dignitaries: Special security measures have been taken for foreign dignitaries, including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremasinghe, and Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, who will attend the ceremony.

Hotel Security: Enhanced security protocols have been put in place at the designated hotels where these foreign guests will stay during their visit to New Delhi.

No-Fly Zone: The city police have issued an advisory announcing a ‘No-Fly Zone’ over Delhi’s National Capital Territory (NCT).

Aerial Platform Ban: The advisory prohibits the operation of sub-conventional aerial platforms to prevent potential threats from criminal, anti-social, or terrorist elements during the oath ceremony.

Effective Dates: The restrictions and prohibitions will be effective from June 9 to June 10.

Detailed Prohibition: From June 9, flying sub-conventional aerial platforms like paragliders, UAVs, hot air balloons, quadcopters, etc., over the NCT of Delhi will be prohibited to ensure the safety of the public, dignitaries, and vital installations.

Penalties for Violations: Violators of these rules will be penalized and prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Change of Guard Ceremony: The Rashtrapati Bhavan has canceled the weekly Change of Guard Ceremony on June 8.

Formal Appointment: These security measures follow the formal appointment of Narendra Modi as the prime minister-designate by the President on Friday.

He later met President Murmu and staked a claim to form the government. The President appointed Modi as the prime minister-designate after BJP president J P Nadda handed her a letter confirming Modi’s election as the leader of the BJP Parliamentary Party.
