NAVI MUMBAI: A 35-year-old woman from Ulwe played a crucial role in helping the Nhava Sheva police arrest a Nigerian woman who was found in possession of narcotics valued at Rs 48 lakh.

According to Anjum Bagwan, senior inspector at Nhava Sheva, the incident occurred on Friday night when Shamshad Begum returned home in an Uber auto rickshaw.

After alighting, a Nigerian woman, later identified as 25-year-old Alisha Kem, took her place in the auto. Upon reaching her home, Begum realized she had left her purse in the autorickshaw.

She quickly contacted the driver, who returned to the spot. Begum then asked Kem if she had found the purse, but Kem denied having it.

Suspecting foul play, Begum confronted Kem, leading to a heated argument. In an attempt to escape, Kem fled the scene and locked herself in a nearby shop’s toilet.

The police were called to the scene, and upon their arrival, lady constables searched Kem’s belongings.

They discovered 18 capsules containing cocaine and mephedrone drugs worth Rs 48 lakh in her purse.
