Bhopal: The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has confirmed that all required documentation for the cheetah relocation project has been submitted to the relevant authorities in South Africa and has been duly acknowledged.

In response to an article published in the January 21, 2025 edition of The Times of India, the NTCA clarified that no final decision has yet been made regarding the specific number of cheetahs to be translocated to India.

Additionally, the NTCA highlighted that the necessary import permit under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) has already been issued by India’s CITES Management Authority.

“The suggestion that authorities neglected CITES requirements during the project’s planning is inaccurate. All necessary permits have been obtained in line with established guidelines,” an NTCA spokesperson stated during a recent briefing.

The authority emphasized that, as with previous relocation efforts, all clearances have been obtained from both nations involved, ensuring full compliance with international regulations.
