As per the reports of the VLCC ship New Diamond fire, the Indian and Srilankan authorities are conducting a joint operation to eliminate the fire that erupted on the vessel on 3rd September.
According to the Sri Lankan Navy, 22 crew members have been rescued from the burning tanker, however, one Filipino nationality seafarer reported dead in the explosion.
The fire erupted in the 1700 tonnes of diesel which the ship is carrying, however, 270,000 tonnes of crude oil cargo is still safe from the fire.
No oil spill is reported from the vessel yet, but the Sri Lankan authorities are worried about it as the ship is much larges than MV Wakashio, and it has 70 times more oil than the Wakashio carried.
