India and Singapore have signed a series of important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Wednesday, enhancing cooperation in digital technologies, semiconductors, health, and skill development. These agreements aim to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two nations.

Digital Technologies MoU Signed

The first MoU was signed between India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Singapore’s Ministry of Digital Development and Information. This agreement will foster collaboration in digital technologies, including data protection, cybersecurity, 5G, supercomputing, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence. It also focuses on upskilling and reskilling workers in the digital sector.

Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership Agreement

India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry signed a MoU to develop a semiconductor ecosystem partnership. This agreement will support the creation of a semiconductor cluster, enhance talent development in semiconductor design and manufacturing, and encourage Singaporean investments in India. Singapore, a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain, contributes significantly to global chip production and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Health Cooperation MoU

An MoU between India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Singapore’s Ministry of Health was also signed. This agreement aims to advance research and innovation in healthcare, promote closer cooperation in human resource development, and support Indian healthcare professionals in Singapore.

Educational Cooperation and Skills Development Agreement

The final agreement, signed by India’s Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship and Singapore’s Ministry of Education, focuses on educational cooperation and skills development. It seeks to enhance collaboration in technical and vocational education and training, complementing existing efforts in skill development.

PM Modi Receives Ceremonial Welcome at Singapore’s Parliament House

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was given a ceremonial welcome at Singapore’s Parliament House on Wednesday, where he was greeted by Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong. The visit marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two nations.

Modi and Wong Establish Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

During the meeting, Modi described Singapore as not just a partner but an inspiration for developing countries. The two leaders agreed to elevate the relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. According to Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, the leaders engaged in productive discussions on various aspects of their bilateral relationship, including Advanced Manufacturing, Connectivity, Digitalisation, Healthcare, Skills Development, and Sustainability.

Warm Reception and Engagements

Modi expressed his gratitude to Wong for the warm welcome and signed the visitors’ book at the Parliament House. He also met with Singaporean ministers and delegates. Following the ceremonial welcome, Modi is scheduled to visit AEM Holdings Ltd’s semiconductor facility with Prime Minister Wong after a lunch hosted by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Additionally, Modi will meet with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Modi will also hold a business meeting with CEOs in Singapore as part of his visit.
