NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held another meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York on Monday, marking their second meeting in a month. The bilateral discussion took place during the UN’s Summit of the Future, as part of Modi’s ongoing visit to the United States.
“Met President Zelenskyy in New York. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my visit to Ukraine last month to enhance our bilateral ties. I reiterated India’s support for an early resolution of the Ukraine conflict and the restoration of peace and stability,” Modi shared on X (formerly Twitter).
Zelenskyy, also posting on X, expressed gratitude for India’s clear support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. “We had a productive discussion focused on deepening cooperation across various platforms, particularly the UN and G20, while also progressing on the Peace Formula and preparing for the second Peace Summit,” he added.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted during a special briefing that the meeting was requested by Ukraine and allowed both leaders to review recent developments. Misri emphasized that both sides acknowledged the positive momentum in their relationship and agreed to maintain close communication.
This meeting marks the third between the two leaders in three months. PM Modi had previously visited Ukraine in August, where he emphasized India’s willingness to support peace efforts amid the ongoing conflict. Earlier in June, Modi and Zelenskyy also held discussions at the G7 summit in Italy.
PM Modi is currently on a three-day visit to the United States, where he is meeting with various leaders, including U.S. President Joe Biden.
