Congress Slams BJP for ‘Unemployment Epidemic’ After Viral Video

The Congress party criticized BJP-ruled states on Thursday following a viral video showing chaotic scenes at a job interview venue in Gujarat. The video depicted job aspirants in a disorderly queue, resulting in a railing collapse. The incident, which took place in Ankleshwar, Bharuch district, saw nearly 800 people arrive for walk-in interviews for just 40 vacancies.

Rahul Gandhi’s Reaction

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and Rae Bareli MP Rahul Gandhi shared the video on social media platform X, expressing his concerns in Hindi. “The ‘disease of unemployment’ has taken the form of an epidemic in India, and BJP-ruled states have become the ‘epicenter’ of this disease. The ‘future of India’ jostling in queues for a common job is the reality of Narendra Modi’s ‘Amritkal’,” Gandhi’s tweet read.

Details of the Viral Video

The video showed a massive queue of job seekers pushing and shoving as they tried to secure a spot on a ramp leading to the interview venue. The ramp’s railing eventually collapsed, causing several aspirants to fall, though no injuries were reported. The 22-second clip highlighted the desperation of the job seekers, as many were unable to make it into the interview room, leading to a chaotic pile-up.

Reactions from Other Congress Leaders

Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge also criticized the BJP, sharing the same video and describing it as proof of the “cheating model” the BJP has employed in Gujarat. He cited issues like paper leaks and the Agniveer scheme in his critique of the BJP-led central government.

“This video is proof of the ‘cheating model’ that BJP has played on the people of Gujarat for the last 22 years. It also shows how the Modi government has deprived the youth of jobs and ruined their future for the last 10 years,” Kharge said in a post on X.

Kharge also condemned the BJP’s unfulfilled promise of providing two crore jobs annually, mentioning recruitment corruption, paper leaks, and the neglect of SC/ST/OBC/EWS posts.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh echoed these sentiments, stating, “This video exposes the so-called Modi model being promoted across the country. The crowd of youth seeking jobs at a private hotel proves that only the rich have benefited in Gujarat. Despite 30 years of BJP rule, unemployment in the state remains at a terrible level.”
