NEW DELHI: The father of the RG Kar Hospital rape-murder victim has moved the Supreme Court (SC), seeking the continuation of the CBI probe into the case despite the conviction and life imprisonment of accused Sanjay Roy. He has urged further investigation to uncover the possible involvement of others who may have aided and abetted the crime.
Senior advocate Karuna Nundy mentioned the plea for urgent hearing before a bench led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar. The request is to have the Calcutta High Court (HC) monitor the CBI investigation even after Roy’s conviction. The SC, which had taken up the case suo motu, agreed to list the plea for hearing soon.
Earlier, the victim’s father had filed a writ petition in the Calcutta HC, but the court directed him to seek clarification from the SC on whether it could proceed with the petition since the matter was already under the apex court’s purview.
He based his plea on the CBI’s chargesheet filed on October 17 last year, which highlighted attempts to hush up the case and destroy evidence by then SHO of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal, and then RG Kar Medical College principal, Sandip Ghosh. Both were arrested but secured bail on December 13 after no supplementary chargesheet was filed within 90 days.
