On the 1st of January, 2025, ship Haigang Zhiyuan completed a 3000-ton methanol bunkering operation for the ship Anne Maersk at Yangshan Port which marks the first such operation of 2025 and signals the advent of regular methanol bunkering at the facility.
Methanol is becoming a key alternative fuel since it produces relatively low emissions. Haigang Zhiyuan is the first methanol bunkering ship at Shanghai Port.
It has 12 cargo tanks with a total capacity of 16000 m3 and enables ship-to-ship bunkering while supporting container operations, along with boosting sustainability and efficiency.
To enable safe operations at the port, Yangshan Port MSA implemented emergency and safety measures and coordinated with pilot stations, shipping companies and terminal operators, overseeing the process.
After this successful bunkering operation, two more are planned for this month. Yangshan Port will continue to refine its methanol bunkering services, reinforcing Shanghai’s stature as a green fuel hub and a vital ship construction centre in the world.
