Last year, container volume at Shanghai port exceeded 47.3m teu, maintaining crown the world’s number one container port for 14 consecutive years. However, last year the Chinese port only saw marginal growth over 2021 when it handled 47m teu.
As of the end of November 2022 Shanghai port’s largest rival Singapore had handled 34.02m teu.
Playing a key role in Belt and Road Initiative and the integrated development of Yangtze river delta, Shanghai port has deepened cooperation with other ports and promoted cooperation between port and shipping lines. The newly opened Northeast Asia Empty Container Distribution center effectively improved servce capacity of the industry.
To bring region advantages into full play, Shanghai port newly established or operated several container companies at Huai’an, Lianyungang, Jiangxi, Wuhan and Lvsi, jointly providing comprehensive services for the nation’s dual circulation strategy.
