Mumbai: A 24-year-old milk vendor was killed in a tragic accident in Mumbai’s Goregaon area early Thursday morning. The incident occurred around 4 a.m. in Aarey Colony, where a speeding SUV driven by a 17-year-old boy collided with the victim’s two-wheeler, according to a police report.
Navin Vaishnaw, who was distributing milk at the time, lost his life when a Mahindra Scorpio, traveling on the wrong side of the road, struck his vehicle. The police have registered a case against both the teenage driver and the SUV’s owner, Iqbal Jivani (48), along with his son, Mohammed Faz Iqbal Jivani (21).
Following the collision, the SUV crashed into an electric pole. Although the teenage driver attempted to flee, his injuries prevented his escape, and the police apprehended him at the scene.
Blood samples have been sent to a laboratory to determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Authorities are also investigating whether the driver had attended a party with friends before the incident.
This tragedy comes just months after a similar incident in Pune, where a juvenile allegedly driving a luxury Porsche in an intoxicated state killed two IT professionals in the early hours of May 19.
In that case, the Juvenile Justice Board initially granted bail to the minor with conditions, including writing a 300-word essay on traffic norms.
However, after the Pune police challenged the decision, the bail was revoked, and the minor was sent to an observation home. The minor has since complied with all bail conditions following a high court order.
