BENGALURU: A 43-year-old IT professional was arrested by Vyalikaval police for allegedly strangling his wife to death and attempting to pass it off as a natural death. The accused, identified as Sharath Uttangi, killed his 42-year-old wife, Chetana, while she was asleep on Monday night.

Chetana, a lecturer, lived with Sharath and their daughter in a rented house on Malleswaram 18th Cross. The couple had been married for 15 years but reportedly had frequent disputes over financial issues.

On Monday, Chetana was unwell with a fever. Taking advantage of the situation, Sharath pretended to give her fever medication but instead administered a sleeping pill. Once she was deeply asleep, he strangled her.

After the murder, he attempted to mislead others by claiming that she had fallen from the cot. With the help of neighbors, he rushed her to a nearby hospital, but she was declared dead on arrival. However, suspicious of his story, a relative of the victim filed a police complaint.

Following an investigation, police arrested Sharath, and he has been remanded in judicial custody.
