NEW DELHI: A bomb threat on an Air India flight from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram led to the declaration of an emergency at Thiruvananthapuram airport. Upon arrival, the flight, carrying 135 passengers, was immediately directed to an isolation bay.
According to sources, the pilot reported the bomb threat as the aircraft was approaching the airport. Although the origin of the threat is still unclear, the authorities responded swiftly.
The Thiruvananthapuram International Airport released a statement confirming the situation: “AI 657 (BOM-TRV) reported a bomb threat at 0730 hours on August 22, 2024.
A full emergency was declared at TRV Airport at 0736 hours. The aircraft landed safely and was moved to the Isolation Bay, where evacuation is currently underway. There has been no impact on life, and airport operations remain unaffected.”
Air India also issued a statement, noting that a specific security alert was detected during the flight, prompting the crew to carry out all necessary security procedures with passenger safety as the top priority.
“All passengers and crew disembarked safely. Air India accords top priority to the safety of its passengers and crew,” said an airline spokesperson.
