MEERUT: A 35-year-old woman has been charged with murder in Meerut for allegedly poisoning her three children, aged 4 to 6, within a week. The police have also registered cases against her brother, Mohd Firoz, and her alleged lover, Mohd Sharafat.
The accused, identified as Hina, married Irshad Asad, an e-rickshaw driver from Mawana Khurd village, in 2014. The couple had five children. However, Asad died in 2022 under “suspicious circumstances,” according to the police.
Mehrunissa, Asad’s mother, revealed: “After my son’s death, Hina left with her brothers and later moved in with Sharafat at her parental home in Makhdoompur, taking all five children with her. On December 5, we learned that her youngest son, Samad (4), had passed away the previous day.”
Mehrunissa alleged: “I always suspected my son was poisoned, though we lacked proof. When Samad died under similar circumstances, I approached the police on December 5, requesting his body be exhumed for a postmortem. I also sought custody of the other four children. Unfortunately, before the legal process could be completed, two more children—Subhan (5) and Abdul (6)—died on December 7 and 10, respectively. All three children were previously healthy.”
Authorities are investigating the case while awaiting postmortem results to determine the exact cause of death.
