Three members of a family drowned in a pond in Kambattanahalli village, Chikkaballapura district, while trying to rescue one another on Sunday, police reported.
Superintendent of Police Kushal Chouksey identified the victims as Ranjit (27), Ramya (24), and Abhilash (21). The incident occurred around 2:30 PM during Diwali celebrations when the family of eight had gathered for a lunch with relatives.
“After their meal, they decided to go for a swim in the pond without realizing how deep it was. Ranjit entered the water first and soon began to struggle. Ramya and Abhilash jumped in to save him but also found themselves in danger,” Chouksey explained.
Neighbors alerted the police after hearing commotion and rushed to the scene. Authorities noted that recent heavy rains had raised the water level in the pond, which was located on an old brick-making site.
The Peresandra police have registered a case of unnatural death, and an investigation is currently underway.
