COSCO’s containership COSCO SHIPPING TAURUS has called for the first time at the TTI ALGECIRAS terminal this weekend.
The megaship of the Chinese shipping company, with a capacity of 20,000 TEU and belonging to the AEU3 service that links Asia and Northern Europe, thus becomes the largest containership of the shipping company that has operated in the semi-automatic terminal of Algeciras.
With a length of 399.8 metres and a beam of 58.72 metres, the COSCO SHIPPING TAURUS berthed on Saturday 20 th of August in the afternoon and, after performing more than a thousand container loading and discharge movements, the vessel sailed on Sunday morning.
Since the 3 rd of June 2021, TTI ALGECIRAS has been preparing for the full utilisation of these new giants operating on the major transoceanic routes such as the COSCO SHIPPING TAURUS, including the upgrading of five of its eight Super Post Panamax cranes to Malaccamax, a project that is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
During the month of September, the fourth Ship-to-Shore crane (#105) will be received. This crane is about to successfully complete the heightening works consisting of increasing its height from 43 to 52 metres and thus being able to operate up to twelve deck heights, and in the extension of its boom by three metres to exceed row 24 on board. After a complex operation to move STS #105 to its final location, the last crane (#104) will be moved to the heightening area outside the Terminal to begin the works.
