NEW DELHI: Early on Monday, the Indian Army neutralized two terrorists in the Nowshera area of Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir. This action followed intelligence reports and alerts from Jammu and Kashmir Police about a potential infiltration attempt.
The Army also reported the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons as part of “Operation Kanchi,” which is ongoing. According to a statement from the White Knight Corps unit posted on X, an anti-infiltration operation was launched based on these intelligence inputs. During the operation, which began on the night of September 8-9, two terrorists were neutralized, and a significant amount of weaponry was seized, including two AK-47s and a pistol.
This development occurs just days before Jammu and Kashmir is set to conduct its first assembly elections since 2014 and the abrogation of Article 370. The elections will be held in three phases, starting in September, with the final phase on October 1 and vote counting scheduled for October 8. Rajouri district will see voting in the second phase on September 25.
Rajouri has been a focal point for terrorist activities in the past. Last month, security forces uncovered an underground terrorist hideout in the district, recovering various daily use items such as cooking gas, blankets, and utensils.
