In a significant counter-terrorism operation in Akhnoor, Jammu and Kashmir, security forces have killed a second terrorist as the encounter intensified on Tuesday morning. This follows the initial engagement where one terrorist was eliminated the previous evening.

The confrontation began when three terrorists attacked an army ambulance in a convoy near the Line of Control (LoC) on Monday. The assailants were hiding near the Assan temple in Jogwan village, and following two explosions and heavy gunfire on Tuesday morning, one of the terrorists was confirmed dead.

Tragically, Phantom, a four-year-old Army dog, lost his life during the operation due to a gunshot wound. The Army deployed BMP-II infantry combat vehicles for enhanced surveillance and secured the area with helicopters to locate the remaining terrorists, who had fled into the forest and were later discovered in a basement.

These terrorists had infiltrated India from across the border prior to the attack on the convoy. This incident comes amid a worrying trend of violence in the region, highlighted by recent attacks that resulted in the deaths of soldiers and civilians.

Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, has vowed to ensure justice for the innocent lives lost in the valley.
