UJJAIN: In response to the tragic wall collapse near the Mahakal temple in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals, officials announced the suspension of two policemen, two civic staffers, and a temple official on Sunday.
The victims, Ajay Yogi (27) and Farheen Rathore (22), were killed, and two others were injured when a section of the boundary wall of a building opposite the temple fell due to heavy rain on Friday evening. At the time, they were packing up their makeshift shops.
Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma confirmed the immediate suspension of Mahakal police station in-charge Ajay Verma and beat in-charge sub-inspector Bharat Singh Nigwal, stating they had shown negligence in monitoring the area.
Ujjain Municipal Corporation chief Ashish Pathak suspended sub-engineer Gopal Boyat and anti-encroachment team head Manish Bali on the directive of district collector Neeraj Kumar Singh. The suspensions were based on their failure to address illegal encroachments near the Mahakaleshwar temple, a task they had been assigned.
Additionally, Dilip Bamania, the temple’s security officer (platoon commander of Home Guards), was also suspended. Collector Singh mentioned that further actions would be determined once a detailed investigation report is received. Following the incident, authorities removed encroachments and makeshift shops around the Mahakal temple on Saturday.
