China’s Yangpu port in Hainan province is planning to expand container hub port construction and build five new container berths as part of developing a regional container hub.
Construction of the port expansion project is expected to start in September this year, building four new 200,000 tonnes-class container berths and one 150,000 tonnes-class container berth, with an annual design handing capacity of 5.5m teu.
With the progressive completion of container facility projects at Xiaochantan container terminal of Yangpu port, the overall container handling capacity and efficiency of the port has been greatly improved.
In the first half of 2022, Yangpu port posted a container throughput of 823,000 teu, an increase of 45.7% year-on-year.
To further improve transport services between Hainan and RCEP regions, Hainan will open up international transit or direct shipping services from Yangpu to ports in Singapore, Vietnam, Australia and other countries.
